Geotechnical Program
About Our Program
Our program was established in 2001. It has 3 academic staff. The total student quota in our program is 60. In our program , we try to provide our students with education at a level that will compete with other universities in the national and international arena by using all the opportunities of modern education. Our program graduates are employed as professionals in both the public and private sectors.
The Geotechnical Program, affiliated with the Department of Construction, is a program that provides theoretical and practical training in the fields of rock mechanics, soil mechanics, field testing and ground improvement.
Purpose of the program
To provide training and experience in the field of design and construction techniques of soil, rock and groundwater and their engineering projects. To provide a good knowledge of mechanics, strength and hydraulics and the ability to apply the concepts here to soil mechanics. To provide training and experience in determining the geotechnical properties of soils with some field tests, opening research boreholes to obtain soil and rock samples and in the absence of suitable ground conditions for the engineering structure to be built, in the selection, design and implementation of the appropriate improvement method.
The goal of the program
To contribute to meeting the need for professional staff by ensuring that graduating students have the knowledge, skills and equipment to take on responsibilities in the private sector and public institutions and organizations.
Entry Requirements for Vocational Training:
Students are placed according to their ÖSYM scores. For this, these people must take the Student Selection Exam held by the ÖSYM Presidency and receive the required score .
Duration and Content of Training:
Geotechnical programs provide 2-year education at the associate degree level, consisting of 4 semesters. Our students graduate with 120 ECTS credits at the end of 2 years. The program includes theoretical and practical, compulsory and elective vocational courses and a compulsory 30-day internship.
Undergraduate Programs That Can Be Transferred With DGS:
Those who successfully complete the Geotechnical program can vertically transfer to the "Civil Engineering", "Geological Engineering", "Geophysical Engineering", "Mining Engineering" and "Petroleum and Natural Gas Engineering" undergraduate programs if they are successful in the Vertical Transfer Exam held by ÖSYM.
Geotechnical Technician
Geotechnical Technician, under the supervision and control of civil engineer and geological engineer or in accordance with the requests of the person, institution, organization who owns the job, conducts field and laboratory studies on the land to be examined. Takes samples at the required frequency and depth according to the structure of the land and in accordance with the instructions. Analyzes the samples taken and prepares a report. Reports the analysis results of field and laboratory tests and presents them to the relevant units. Provides technical communication between the engineer and the employees.
Working Areas and Employment Opportunities:
Graduates of the Geotechnical Department can work in mining, ground survey, ground improvement, dam, tunnel construction projects and drilling companies. They can also work in various government institutions. Geotechnical Department job opportunities and work areas are as follows:
-They can work in the State Hydraulic Works and its affiliated units.
-They can work in units affiliated with the Provincial Special Administration.
-They can work in the central organization of the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization and other affiliated units.
-They can work on highways.
-They can operate in the Bank of Provinces.
-They have the opportunity to find work in soil survey companies and soil mechanics laboratories.
